The final ballot recount from the Electoral Office of Jamaica is in!
These are:
The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP): 33 seats
The People's National Party (PNP) 27 seats
Seats gained since yesterday, September 5, 2007:
1) The JLP's Mr. Barrington Gray won the West Trelawny seat. While the seat was lost by the PNP's Dr. D.K. Duncan, by only 9 votes!!
2) South St. James was won by the PNP's Mr. Derrick Kellier. The seat was lost by the JLP's Mr. Noel Donaldson.
Congratulations, again to the JLP!!!
We at Girl With a Purpose Blog understand that Prime Minister- Designate Bruce Golding, should be sworn in by next week.
We will continue to keep you updated re the exact date and the structure of his new Cabinet (the highest decision-making body in Parliament.).
A few PNP and JLP candidates will be requesting Magisterial recounts of the seats that were lost by less than 200 votes. By law, this request should be submitted within four (4) days of the official announcement of the election results, which was today, September 6, 2007.
We will also keep you updated re the results of these requests.
