(Please see the link to Part 2 of the above Presidential Inauguration Speech here .)
Oh what a day!
What a superb and wonderful day!
This morning, Jamaicans joined the millions of people across the USA and across the world, who tuned in to their television sets to watch the inauguration of America's new President, Barack Obama.
Man, we could feel the excitement and electricity in the air!...
So much so that we were energized and hopeful, even though we were thousands of miles away from Washington DC, where America's first African American President was sworn in.
From the opening prayer by Reverend Rick Warren to Aretha Franklin's rendition of "My Country Tis of Thee", to the beautiful performance "Air and Simple Gifts" written by John Williams and performed by by Yo-Yo Ma - cello, Gabriela Montero- piano, Anthony McGill - clarinet and Itzhak Perlman - violin...it was just great witnessing history unfold.
And then the moment came...sworn in by Chief Justice John Roberts, Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States of America!
President Obama's speech was clinically delivered:
In it, he outlined a rich American history where the pioneers of America, stuck to their task to form a new nation in spite of bloodshed, war, trials and tribulation. He encouraged Americans to continue the great history of their forefathers in pursuit of dreams despite hardship.
He also mentioned the legacy of the civil rights movement...to an America which has now elected its first African American President.
He promised to work with the Muslim world if they were willing to work with America...he also promised to work along nations that are poor. His statement to those countries with relative plenty that they could no longer ignore suffering of those outside their boundaries, was indeed heartening!
He then called for unity among Americans in order to to continue to make the USA a great nation.
In all, it was a solid and sobering speech.
Then we saw him lunch with the members of Congress and heard some minutes later that senator Ted Kennedy had suffered a seizure - Senator Robert Byrd, who was seated beside Senator Kennedy, suffered from no health problem, but was wheeled away by his security detail..
We were relieved, hours later to hear that they he was ok.
(Senator Kennedy has brain cancer and had a brain tumor removed in May of last year. Unfortunately seizures are now a part of his life, as a result. Doctors say Senator Kennedy's seizure resulted from fatigue.)
We saw President Obama walk (for about 12 minutes in all) with wife Michelle, Vice President Joe Biden, his wife and their sons along Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House.
We then saw them waving to the marching bands and other representative groups at the Presidential Inauguration parade, as these groups walked by the viewing area.
========
I understand that the day will not end until the wee hours of the morning for President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, as they have over ten (10) balls to attend, tonight.
========
Well, no doubt, Martin Luther King is rejoicing in heaven knowing that his "I Have a Dream" speech seems like it has finally been fulfilled.
Girl With a Purpose (GWAP)Blog wishes President Obama a successful term in Office that will result in a return to prosperity for the USA and the rest of the world.
Walk good President Obama!
I would like to thank will24411 for the use of his YouTube inset video above.
(P.S. You know, GWAP Blog promotes good family values and as such, we are intrigued by this love affair between President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama...so intrigued, that we will be examining it in our next post...so please stay tuned!)
They feel the need to tell you their version of the truth, no matter what that truth is...as such they'd rather just tell you what they feel,in order to get things off of their chest and move on with their lives.
And anyone is fair game...be it family, friend or boss.
Well, I believe that you should always strive to tell the truth...but unfortunately, most people cannot handle the plain truth.
And this is very important for our girls and young women to understand...
You may know the truth...but you have to be very careful re how you say it.
The truth should be said, in such a way, that the person being told, is the better for it.
If you can't do this...then it's better to hold the truth in.
A prime example is your boss.
There are some bosses who will ask you for an honest review of their work and their approach to it. In some organizations it is mandatory that you review your boss's performance. It's a part of the Performance Evaluation Process (PEP) - your boss/supervisor evaluates you and you evaluate him/her.
(Your boss' evaluation is seen and judged by his/her superiors further up in the organization.)
Please ensure that when asked to do a Performance Evaluation/Appraisal of your boss, you ask if this is standard for each employee and ensure that the measures employed are consistent within the department, division, or company.
Please be fair during the Performance Evaluation Process.
This is not the time to get back at your boss...believe you me, offices are very small places...even when they are thousands of miles apart...people are involved in webs of relationships that you may not be aware of.
You need to be fair in your evaluation and be sure that you can back-up statements made, with evidence.
Even when there are glaring negatives about your boss's approach to his/her work and/or the people whom he/she supervises, there must be one positive thing that you can say about your boss.
This is your opportunity to say it.
You see, young friends, one day you will be the boss and like it or not...the higher up you go in an organization...the more you are envied and disliked...
Some people can't wait to make you fail...while others are anxious for you to succeed. :)
Bosses are well aware of this and this reality makes some bosses very fickle.
A very negative and unbalanced evaluation can get you fired...eventually.
You need to learn to give constructive criticism from very early in your career....that is, the truth, intermingled with how the person can improve.
This will be a great tool for you to use when working with your co-workers and team members, as this is a great way of encouraging them to give of their best to you, as a co-worker and to the organization as a whole.
So the next time that you are tempted to "tell it like it is", think twice and then think twice again.
If there is any doubt that the truth will hurt...hold it in until you can couch it in a way, that will actually help the other person improve.
Nuff said. (Jamaican meaning, enough has been said.)
The trial involving former PNP* State Minister in the Ministry of Industry, Technology, Energy and Commerce, Mr. Kern Spencer and his Personal Assistant, Ms.Coleen Wright, that was scheduled to start today, has been postponed until next Wednesday.
The lawyers representing Ms. Coleen Wright and Mr. Spencer said they were only given crucial documents by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), two (2) weeks ago and they needed more time to analyze them.
[Mr. Patrick Atkinson represents Mr. Spencer while Mr. K.D. Knight (former PNP Minister of Justice and National Security), is representing Ms. Coleen Wright.]
The lawyers also stated that they needed the DPP to reveal whether or not she will be prosecuting Mr. Rodney Chin, or if he will be used as State's witness against Mr.Spencer and Ms. Wright.
...As this would greatly help in the preparation of their defense for the accused.
However, the DPP, Ms. Paula Lewellyn, stated that she would not reveal this information until when the trial started.
(Both Mr. Spencer and Ms.Wright are on money laundering and corruption charges, in relation to the Cuban Light Bulb scandal.
Another charge of aiding and abetting corruption, was added to the list of charges against Ms. Wright, today.)
Of course, Girl With a Purpose (GWAP) Blog will keep you updated re the progress of this trial, which by all accounts, should be an exciting one to follow.
This excitement will definitely reach fever-pitch due to the presence of none other than Mr. KD Knight - orator, spokesman, PNP stalwart, Dorothy Lightbourne-basher** and reputed lawyer!
So please stay tuned :)...

Last night I saw some shocking news on Television Jamaica...I mean the news on TV is so gruesome that unfortunately my mind has gotten used to the human depravity that makes the news...
But this news story actually blew me away!:
A woman, who accused a 14-year old schoolgirl of taking away her man, lay-waited her and gave her a good whopping on Wednesday morning, with an electrical wire.
Even though the schoolgirl kept telling the woman that she was not involved with her man, the woman continued to beat her.
The beating was so severe that the police had to intervene...the woman was eventually arrested for causing bodily harm to the schoolgirl.
Now, I feel that this woman was rightly angry because her man cheated on her...but her anger was misdirected...it should have been directed at her cheating boyfriend...she should have given him the whopping versus the schoolgirl...
Now I'm not condoning a woman beating a man, here...but these women must realize that when their husbands or boyfriends cheat on them, it's not just the "other woman's" fault...the boyfriend/husband is also at fault.
If a man cheats on a woman or a woman cheats on a man, once, it may have been an error in judgement, but if he/she does it over two (2) times, then that person has lost the right to be in relationship.
I believe that both women and men should have enough self respect that they do not allow cheating partners into their beds.
Don't use the children or some other lame excuse to stay in a relationship in which your partner takes his/her many lovers into bed with you, by cheating on you.
He/she is not only hurting you mentally and psychologically, he/she will give you Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and AIDS.
Your cheating partner will also make your children feel insecure in the home and make them distrustful, when married, of their partners.
The Bible (in Matthew 5:31-32), gives allowance for a married person to divorce his/her cheating spouse.
This is the only time that remarriage, when the first partner is alive, is allowed, according to Scripture.
=============
Cheating is just plain wrong...
And people must understand before they enter into a relationship with you, what you will and will not tolerate...
Cheating, because of the emotional and physical damage that it results in, should be one of the top items on your "Will Not Tolerate" list!
Nuff said! (Jamaican meaning, enough has been said.)
