The Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP's) Daryl Vaz, has won the West Portland by-election.
He has gained 7,915 votes to the People's National Party's (PNP's) Kenneth Rowe's 5,987 votes.
This means that he has gained 57% of the votes to Kenneth Rowe's 43% and that he will be returned as Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of West-Portland.
Jamaica's 60-member Parliament now stands at JLP 33: PNP 27 MPs.
What should be noted by all Jamaicans is that this by-election went through without incident.
It was heartening to see both JLP and PNP citizens intermingling with each other, from the beginning of this campaign.
The rest of Jamaica can take a leaf out of West Portland's book, where this is concerned, as the majority of Jamaicans are tired of the crime and violence in general, but especially at election time.
GWAP Blog congratulates Mr. Vaz and the JLP on their win.
It is our hope that both the JLP and the PNP will follow the example of Mr. Vaz's work in the constituency of West Portland and truly work in Jamaica's best interest.
