In these tough economic times, we have to be conscious about the gifts that we give our loved ones.
Quality gifts that serve a specific function and can last for years...like watches, should be preferred to gifts with shorter life-spans.
Watches are best appreciated on special occasions: e.g. they make excellent Christmas or Valentine's gifts or gifts that celebrate significant achievement by the recipient - e.g. a graduation, an anniversary, landing of a first job, a promotion.
The beauty about watches is that they are constant reminders of your love and care for your loved one.
Just think about it... every time that your loved one checks his/her watch to inquire of the time or the weather or date, you'll come into mind...
Because of this, it's important to choose a timepiece that's best-suited to your loved one's personality, or occasions for which the timepiece will be worn.
E.g. there are timepieces that enhance or complement the wearer's image, or enable the wearer to perform a specific function, more efficiently (e.g. angler's/fisherman's watches), so it's vital that you let the person know the specific occasions that you had in mind, for which the timepiece was bought.
For the workplace: a timepiece should reflect style, professionalism, and pragmatism. It shouldn't be overbearing or gaudy, but fit right in with the work environment and the position that the person presently holds or wants to hold.
So wearing a Mickey-Mouse watch or a watch that appears to be cheap, is not suitable for the workplace as it's a dead give-away that you shouldn't seriously be considered for positions of greater responsibility - e.g. management or upper-management positions.
...So are watches whose faces are badly scratched...as they demonstrate lack of attention to detail.
So, you may ask, what are the best timepieces for work?
Well, these brands stand out:
- Fossil
- Seiko
- Sartego
- Jules Jurgensen
At the higher end - Tissot watches are great for formal evening wear or for making that great first impression on that all-important client.
Functional Timepieces
Functional timepieces not only tell the time but make the wearer more productive/efficient. They make excellent lifestyle gifts...
E.g. the Seiko SKA291 Men's Kinetic Dive Watch with Orange Dial Strap, is a great timepiece for a diver. The entire watch is water-proof and has an orange dial that allows the diver to see the time, underwater, whilst being fully functional up to a depth of 200 metres.
[Kinetic timepieces utilize kinetic energy - the power of movement (in this case, of the human body), to keep the watch running. This means that they don't require batteries or need winding to operate... all the wearer has to do, to make them operational, is to move his/her wrist.
seiko kinetic timepieces, however have an added benefit - they come with a 6-month power reserve capacitor, that store power whilst the watch is inert, so as to keep the timepiece fully functional, whilst not in use. As soon as the wearer moves however, the timepiece switches to kinetic energy to make it operational].
