Ok, so I've been asked to review the above vacation rental commercial from VacationRental.org. - a company that offers vacation rentals to vacationers.
(Vacation rentals are fully-furnished apartments or houses, available for rent, to vacationers, on a temporary basis.
They are the more economical and luxurious alternative to booking a hotel room.
Please take the time to view the video above).
...Here's my review:
This commercial catches my attention from the onset!
UNITARD (the guy in blue and supposedly the super-hero of the vacation rental industry) greatly assists with this.
He's a bit animated and in-your-face, but one thing that can be said about him, is, that he makes the ad memorable.
I mean who can forget a guy (who's supposedly a nerd), dressed in a body-fitting blue suit, with a neon-green brief, grabbing your luggage?
==========
The way in which the front desk clerk at the hotel, in the ad shows her disregard for her guests (or you the vacationer), is interesting, for she doesn't even care to pronounce their name properly - to her they're (you're) just money in the bag.
I guess what VacationRental.org is trying to bring across, is that with vacation rentals, you don't have to deal with rude front desk staff and for the price of 2-3 nights in a cramped hotel room, you could be vacationing in a luxury home of your choice, anywhere in the world, for a week or more.
Yeah!
They also give a great preview of the homes available on their website.
Whilst the ad is entertaining, you have to watch it at least twice, to hear the benefits of using a vacation rental, versus a hotel room.
This is where the narrator's role is crucial...for he helps you to understand why UNITARD is acting the way he is...he's actually preventing the family (really you, the vacationer) from making one of the biggest mistakes they (you) could make when vacationing - choosing a hotel.
It's an unforgettable ad - but I wish more of the benefits of using vacation rentals (privacy, the ability to mix with locals at your particular destination and the ability to sample local food), were emphasized.
The "ha-ha" (funny) moment really occurred for me, during the last 15 seconds of the ad. :)
In all, it's a good ad and should accomplish two(2) of the four (4) tenets of advertising: generating awareness (of the benefits of using a vacation rental) and interest [on the part of (potential) vacationers, to find out more about what VacationRental.org has to offer].
