Ever wondered why female Dancehall artists like Marion Hall, aka "Lady Saw" and Ce'Cile, have just now embarked on a singing career?
Well it's because when they first started as singers, the Jamaican public paid them little or no attention.
(This they revealed to Nationwide Radio's Emily Crooks and Naomi Francis on Nationwide's morning programme, This Morning, during the week of January 25-26, 2010).
Both artists loved music so much and were so determined to make a successful career out of it, that they thought they had no other option than to gravitate to what Jamaican people wanted - Dancehall music.
And Dancehall music they gave...
Lady Saw is known for her raucous Dancehall lyrics that are so brazen, they would make her grandmother blush.
Ce'Cile is a bit toned-down, but she does get her point across, musically, as well.
(This picture is of Ce'Cile in concert. It is by Kat Geb ).
Well after launching successful Dancehall careers, both ladies are now "singing" to attract a wider, international audience to their music.
Recently, at the Shaggy and Friends Concert and at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, Lady Saw rebranded her image as Marion Hall (her birth name). Her newer, cleaner lyrics under the Marion Hall brand, were well appreciated.
Ce'Cile is now adding songs to her repertoire, when she makes international appearances.
==========
Well GWAP Blog says, "it's about time", to both artists. We wish you well, Marion and Ce'Cile, in this new phase of your careers.
...May you continue to rise meteorically in your music careers!
