While dogs and cats are by far the most common pets that people own, reptiles have been growing in popularity too.
From iguanas to snakes, reptiles seem to provide their owners with just as much joy and delight as their furry-friends, do.
It was not until two weeks ago, that I realized that reptiles, really get it!
Of late, when I open my kitchen windows in the mornings, there is a small tree lizard that greets me. He looks at me intently and doesn't budge...even if I reach over him to further open the windows :).
Now that's pretty strange behaviour for a lizard, as most lizards usually run away from you, when you approach them.
(Unlike most Jamaicans, I like lizards :)...I like watching them move up and down on walls, with their padded feet. I also like to see how they maintain their balance while going after food, like a small moth.)
But this lizard with his bravery, really caught my attention. So much so, that I decided to name him Larry...he looks like a Larry...he's very cute in a reptilian sort of way. :)
One morning I decided to leave a tiny pinch of bread for him and to watch his reaction...he ran, but a few minutes later, I saw this guy, busy munching away...must have liked it...for the next morning, he was back!
I didn't give him any more bread, though...why?...
I really didn't think that I should be interfering with his diet of little insects that he gets from the plants outside my window - not to mention the nearby trees.
He still comes by from time to time, but I haven't seen him of late...hope none of the birds have made him their meal :)
But nonetheless, I miss him...yeah, I really do :)...
Bravery is a rare trait among humans, much less lizards :).
I'm a cat and dog person, never thought much of having a reptile for a pet...but now I'm reconsidering it :)
