Everyone has defining moments in their lives..these are:
1) Unforgettable events that summarize different phases of our lives
Or
2) Events that occur in our lives that enable us to gain some deep perspective re some aspect of our lives.
George Bush's defining moment occurred on Sunday, while at a press conference in Iraq.
During the press conference, an angry Iraqi journalist threw both of his shoes at Mr. Bush.
Mr. Bush was successful at ducking /(dodging being hit), on both occasions.
[In Iraq (or in any Muslim country) it is an insult for someone to throw their shoes at you...as the shoe is the bearer of dirt and as such, is deemed to be unclean. This event also runs contrary to the Muslim tradition of treating Heads of State like royalty and thus it upset some Muslims and Iraqis.]
But I can tell you that a lot of people around the world have found this event to be quite comical...
As they feel that George Bush's tenure as US President, has been mostly a failure, due to his initiation of the War in Iraq.
...They feel that the boot-throwing incident is a fitting summary of how many people around the world feel about Mr. Bush.
I must admit that I too found this event to be comical up until today, when I heard George Bush being interviewed by CNN correspondent, Candy Crowley, during Wolf Blitzer's Programme, "Situation Room".
Mr. Bush admitted that the US had invaded Iraq based on inaccurate intelligence.
Inaccurate intelligence, huh?...
Now this is a war that has claimed thousands of lives, caused tremendous damage (physically and emotionally) and for which trillions of dollars have been spent...trillions of dollars that the USA would have loved to have had in their coffers now.
Interesting huh?...when you can be so dogged about an idea that you execute it so that your name can go down in the history-books as being one of the greatest American Presidents, only to have your name go down as being an embarrassment to the USA.
To have your tenure be recorded as being so shameful, that the world (including Americans) laugh at you while you're being insulted.
I would like this to be a lesson to President-elect Barack Obama, if he, in his decision-making capacity as US President, makes decisions that are not in the best interest of his country nor the rest of the world:
Mr. Obama...if you walk in the footsteps of your predecessor...you will not only disappoint Americans, you will disappoint the rest of the world.
Mr. Obama, the world is wary of world-leaders like Mr. George Bush.
We await the dawning of a more intelligent American administration...one which understands its role in world politics and is willing to act in the interest of itself and the world who looks up to it.
