Oh my goodness...did you see that? ...Did you really see that 100m (male) final today at the 2009 IAAF Berlin World Championships?
Man, I'm still amazed...I'm in wonderful shock and awe!
Usain Bolt blew his 'old' world record of 9.69 secs away, to set a stunning new world record of 9.58 secs!!!!...
And Asafa Powell...oh my, what can I say about this young man??!!??
He really did us proud as Jamaicans, as he ran his Season's Best of 9.84 secs, to get the Bronze medal...
And Tyson Gay broke the American record and came second, in 9.71 secs, in fine style!
Well, I guess Oral Tracey, comedic, Jamaican Sports commentator on the programme, Sports Commentary, will be taping up his mouth tonight...he won't be pelted with eggs, as Asafa did not win gold, but he promised to tape up his mouth for the entire Sports Commentary, if Asafa medalled, and we're going to hold him to that!
I tell you, the streets of Kingston were empty today, as most Kingstonians stayed home, glued to their TV sets to see this wonderful 100m (male) match-up and these three men did not disappoint!
Even the Gleaner (Jamaica's most popular newspaper) people had problems making sales today!
And our women also, did not disappoint...four (4) of them (Kerron Stewart, Shelly-Ann Fraser, Aleen Bailey and Veronica Campbell-Brown), made it to the semifinals of the female 100m.
Their finals will be tomorrow.
Novlene Williams-Mills and Shericka Williams won their heats in the 400 m Semi-Finals (female) and are set to compete in their finals on Tuesday.
Danny McFarlane, 9-time World Championship veteran at the 400m Hurdles, has made it into the finals of the 400m hurdles (male) and will also compete in his finals on Tuesday.
Three Jamaican women will compete in the heats of the 400m hurdles tomorrow: they are Melaine Walker (2008 Olympic gold medalist in this event), Kaliese Spencer and Nickiesha Wilson.
Tomorrow promises to be another exciting day for Jamaicans, as we are expecting medals (gold, silver, bronze) in the 100m (female). Coverage starts at 10:00 a.m. on Television Jamaica.
Please see the timetable/schedule for all the upcoming events in the 2009 IAAF World Championships, here.
As promised, GWAP Blog will keep you updated re the results of the major events, involving Jamaicans.
