Please see our previous post, here, for a background to this post.
Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, is expected to address the nation at 8:00/8:30 p.m., tonight.
He will explain the character and extent of the Limited State of Emergency imposed on the parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew, which came into effect at 6:00 p.m., today.
(A State of Emergency that can be revoked or extended by the House of Representatives).
In the meantime, a member of the Island Special Constabulary Force (ISCF) was shot in the hand by gunmen, as he and other members of the Security Forces attempted to clear a roadblock in Western Kingston today.
A man in a vehicle was shot by the police, when ordered to stop and didn't.
He later died.
The police are appealing to all law-abiding residents of Denham Town and Tivoli Gardens to evacuate the area and get into buses that have been sent to the intersection of Industrial Terrace (a major thoroughfare through Western Kingston) and Marcus Garvey Drive, for them.
They will be transported to a secure location.
The Jamaica Urban Transport Company (JUTC - the bus company) has pulled and re-routed buses that usually terminate in Downtown Kingston.
The police at the Denham Town Police Station, who were under heavy gunfire today, have managed to repel the gunmen.
Will keep you updated.
