Many of us make New Years' Resolutions only to find, that, towards the end of the year, we haven't accomplished them.
[A resolution is something (a goal) we want to accomplish during the New Year].
We were well-intentioned in making these resolutions, but somehow, somewhere along the line, our resolutions got lost in the myriad of things we have to balance in life.
Well, Girl With a Purpose (GWAP) Blog, in an effort to empower you, our friends, to not only make great resolutions but keep them, have derived six (6) easy tips that will help you to make and keep your New Years' Resolutions. (Years' because this is applicable for 2011 and beyond):
These are as follows:
1) Set realistic goals, based on your spirituality, experience, skillsets and education and where you want to be, where each is concerned.
Write them down and break them down into smaller steps or milestones (achievable tasks) to be achieved on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis.
Keep tabs on where you are in relation to these milestones, weekly, monthly and yearly, so that you can take corrective action when you find yourself straying from your goals.
When you have reached a milestone, celebrate briefly, remembering that you have other milestones to cover, before reaching your final goal.
2) Always make your personal growth and self development, a priority.
During each New Year, you should try to learn a marketable skill, or improve on your present skillsets, so that you will become more attractive to current and future employers.
You should also be learning a skill that will improve your quality of life...e.g. one that will enable you to successfully run your own business or give you more free time to spend with family and friends
3) Remember that giving back to family, friends and community, will keep you balanced. Ways in which you can accomplish this, should also be included in your goal-setting processes in point 1) above
4) Stop waiting around for good things to happen to you, grab life by the horns and make things happen for you.
I've always found Nike's slogan of "just do it!", to be a great guide for my life. This has helped me to be proactive in getting things done, promptly and successfully. :)
E.g. if you want a better-paying job, do an analysis of skillsets needed for that job, assess if you do have these skillsets and if you don't, educate yourself to acquire the requisite skills
5) Expect the unexpected, in all human relationships: People will pleasantly surprise you, they will also disappoint you...learn to take each in stride.
Do not let personal disappointments dissuade you from reaching your goals. Stay focused, take care of you, remember that life happens, even if disappointment causes some delay in the achievement of your goals
6) Always remember that faith and hope are essential components of any dream. Trust God with your dreams; seek His guidance and direction in making decisions in your life.
Who better to make your life-guide, than the Person who made you for His pleasure and who wants you to be the best human being you can be?
