Jamaica's Netball Captain-Simone Forbes, Banned for Three Months

Today, the (JADCO) panel found Simone Forbes guilty of using banned substance, Clomiphene.

 

(Simone is former captain of Jamaica's National Netball team).

 

Apparently, Simone had the opportunity, before she was tested on April 18, to declare all medication that she was taking. Clomiphene was on the list, but she didn't declare using it.

 

As a result, she has been banned from all competitive sporting activities for three (3) months for the period: April 18-July 18.

 

This means that she will  miss the World Netball Championships in Singapore from July 3-10.

 

JADCO  is warning other athletes that they should keep abreast of the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA's) prohibited list of substances for 2011, which is on the WADA website.

 

So that when doctors are prescribing medication for them, they can check the contents of same, versus what's on WADA's prohibited list.

 

Simone is reportedly going to appeal the ruling.

 

Please let this be a lesson to all athletes, you've got to take care of you and be aware of what's going into your bodies.

 

In the end, it is your reputation that will suffer and your pockets that money will leak from, when you lose revenue from being banned from competition - not your doctors.

The Royal Wedding - A Blast!

Let me tell you, I'm still in awe. :)

 

Thirty (30) years ago, I woke up very early in the morning, to see the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana and again, this morning, I woke very early (4:30 a.m), to witness the wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton.

 

[Jamaica time is five (5) hours behind London time].

 

The bride and groom, her family and the royal family's ride to Westminster Abbey, the wedding procession and ride to Buckingham Palace, were fantabulous pomp and ceremony and oh, I just loved it!

 

...and the actual ceremony itself was sober, beautiful, breathtaking.

 

The Rt. Rev. Chartres' (Bishop of London), words of encouragement to the bride and groom and the depth of his words...

 

...Them pledging themselves to each other until death...were nice, very nice! 

 

Of course, our local free-to-air television stations in Jamaica, broadcasted The Royal Wedding live from 4:00 a.m. -5:30 a.m and from 6:00 a.m. -6:30 a.m.(for CVM Television) and up to 6:00 a.m for Television Jamaica.

 

But for such a momentous occasion, it was disappointing that they both didn't air the entire ceremony, the procession back to Buckingham Palace and the famous double kiss, on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

 

Oh yes, friends, Prince William and Kate (oh pardon me, the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge), broke tradition and kissed a second time (for a little longer than the first), whilst being urged on and congratulated by the thousands that gathered in front of Buckingham Palace.

 

(According to article, "Royal wedding: Prince William and Kate Middleton became Duke and Duches of Cambride", by Martin Beckford, Dukedom is the highest rank in British peerage. Duke and Duchess are customary titles given by the ruling monarch, on the occasion of a royal wedding).

 

I had the good fortune to tune in to Yahoo's Live coverage in association with ABC Television.

 

Thanks to them both, for making this momentous ceremony available via the Internet!!!

Sunshine Girls Beat England, 57 to 56 in Netball

 

Jamaica's Sunshine Girls narrowly beat the English national netball team, 57 to 56 points, in the opening match of the Supreme Ventures Sunshine Series, last night.

 

(The series, which is being played in Jamaica, consists of three (3) matches, with the other two (2) matches being tomorrow and Saturday, at the National Indoor Sports Complex at 7:30 p.m.).

 

The Sunshine Girls (the name of the Jamaica's senior female netball team) and England are preparing for the upcoming World Netball Championships in July of this year.

 

Jamaica is ranked 4th in the world and the English team, 3rd; only ten (10) points separate them in the world rankings.

 

These two teams have been competing for 3rd place  in the world rankings for the past 10 years.

 

In the last home series against England, the Sunshine girls beat England 2 matches to 1.

 

If you can, please go out and support the girls.
