Last night, news emerged that Bruce Golding, the Jamaican Prime Minister, had reshuffled his Cabinet.
This news was confirmed, today.
[The Jamaican Cabinet consists of fifteen (15) high-ranking members of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party. They are the ultimate decision-makers when it comes to the daily operations of government].
Two (2) casualties of the Cabinet reshuffle are Dorothy Lightbourne, former Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Karl Samuda, former Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce - who have been axed from the Cabinet.
The new-look Cabinet was sworn in at Kings House at 3:00 p.m, this afternoon.
Changes to the Cabinet are as follows:
- Clive Mullings returns as Minister of Mining and Energy (the former Minister - James Robertson, resigned the post in May, following his US visa revocation)
- Christopher Tufton - Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce (he was former ly Minister of Agriculture)
- Robert (Bobby) Montague - Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries (he was formerly Minister of Local Government)
- Shahine Robinson - Minister of Local Government
- Dwight Nelson - Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Minister of National Security
- Delroy Chuck - Minister of Justice (formerly Speaker of the House of Parliament)
- Gregory Mair - Minister of State (Junior Minister) in the Ministry of Education
- Othneil Lawrence - Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport and Works
- St. Aubyn Bartlett -Minister of State in Ministry of National Security.
The post of Attorney General and Minister of Justice has been separated,as recommended by the Manatt/Coke Comissioners. The new Attorney General, should be known next week.
