Hi Everyone,
Please see the latest news re Hurricane Irene. (Yes, she was upgraded to a hurricane yetsrerday).
At 11:00 a.m. Eastern, Irene was centered 70 miles south of Grand Turk Island with top winds of 100 miles per hour (mph) and is moving toward the west-northwest at 12 mph.
Now, based on Irene's current movement, meteorologists are predicting that she will make landfall in North Carolina on Thursday, as a category 3 hurricane.
However, a few meteorologists are saying that she could land as a category 4 hurricane.
In the meantime, according to The Weather Channel:
- A hurricane warning is in effect for the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands
- A hurricane watch is in effect for the north coast of Haiti from Le Mole St. Nicholas eastward to the Dominican Republic border
- A tropical storm warning is posted for the north coast of Hispaniola
- Irene will now move northwestward through the Bahamas through Thursday.
To our friends in the Turks and Caicos Islands and the Bahamas, our prayers are with you.
Please keep safe, batten down and stay tuned to your AM/FM radios to hear the latest re Irene,ok?
I would like to thank MSNBC.com for the use of their above video.
