Jamaica National Athletics Trials 2012: Day 2 Results - Bolt Beaten Into 2nd!

 

Today represents Day 3 of the  2012 Jamaican National Trials aka the Jamaican Senior Athletics Championships:

 

Day 2 Results (Main)

 

100m (Men) Final

1. Yohan Blake - 9.75 seconds(s)
2. Usain Bolt - 9.86 s
3. Asafa Powell - 9.88 s
4. Michael Frater - 9.94 s
5. Kemar Bailey-Cole - 10.00 s
6. Nesta Carter - 10.01 s

 

In a surprise to many, Usain Bolt had a very slow start, as he sat in the blocks.  Yohan Blake ran his Personal Best time - 9.75 s - the world leading time for 2012 and a new Jamaican national record!

 

Asafa Powell won the hearts of many on island and in the diaspora, as he ran his heart out, despite carrying an injury (he had to be flown to the US for treatment and returned to Jamaica on Friday, to compete).

1. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce - 10.70 seconds(s)
2. Veronica Campbell-Brown - 10.82 s
3. Kerron Stewart - 10.94 s
4. Sherone Simpson - 11.01 s

 

400m (Women) Hurdles (Final)

1. Melaine Walker - 54.77  s
2. Kaliese Spencer - 55.04 s

 

Implications for the Olympics

The top three (3) men and women will represent Jamaica in  the 100m (individual races), at the London 2012 Olympics.

 

These persons and those in positions 4-6 will represent Jamaica in  the 4 x 100 m relays (where applicable).

 

How did our Predictions Pan Out?

 

We predicted that Usain Bolt would have won the 100m (men), Yohan Blake - 2nd and Asafa Powell -3rd.

 

So our predictions re the top 3 men were correct. However, our places for positions 1-2 were reversed in reality.

 

All four (4) women whom we predicted would progress, did. :)

Jamaica National Athletics Trials 2012: Day 1 Results, Day 2 Predictions

Today represents Day 2 of the 2012 Jamaican National Trials aka the Jamaican Senior Athletics Championships:

 

Day 1 Results (Main)

 

400m Hurdles (Women)

Melaine Walker and Kaliese Spencer have progressed to the semifinals.

 

400m (Women)

Christine Day,  Rosemarie Whyte,  Shericka Williams and Novlene Williams-Mills, have progressed to the semifinals.

 

400m (Men)

Dane Hyatt,  Javier Bell, Jermaine Gonzales and Danny McFarlane, have progressed to the semifinals.

 

100m (Men) Heats

Usain Bolt (10.06 secs), Yohan Blake (10.00 secs), Asafa Powell (10.19 secs), Michael Frater and Nesta Carter (10.18 secs), have progressed to the semifinals of the event, to be run today.

 

Day 2 Predictions

a) The marquee event at 9:25 p.m. - the 100m (Men) Final:

1. Usain Bolt  - 1st
2. Yohan Blake - 2nd
3. Asafa Powell - 3rd

 

b) 100m (Women) Heats:

Veronica Campbell-Brown, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Kerron Stewart and Sherone Simpson, will progress to  the  semifinals.

There were no heats, but three (3) semifinals did take place.  All four (4) women would then be predicted to have progressed to the finals.

Jamaica National Athletics Trials 2012: Starts Today & Schedule

 

The 2012 Jamaican National Athletics Trials, aka the Jamaica Senior Athletics Championships (that will qualify Jamaican athletes for the upcoming London 2012 Olympics), starts today.

The listing of ticket outlets and the prices of tickets, are available here. (Grandstand tickets are sold out!)

 

To see and pay for the streamed event, live, please visit the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAAs) website, here . 

 

(The JAAAs is the national administrative body for athletics on island. Our understanding is that you will be able to pay by credit card, later this afternoon).

The marquee event  will be the men's 100m final, starting at approx 9:25 p.m. tomorrow, where the world's fastest man - Usain Bolt, will go up against Yohan Blake - 2011 World Champion (100m)  and Asafa Powell, former World 100m record-holder.

 

Full coverage on each day will be also be available via KLAS 89 FM Radio (KLAS Sports Radio),

 

Whilst coverage on Television Jamaica and Nationwide Radio, begins at 5:30 p.m./ 6:00 p.m. on each day.
