Team Jamaica's Alia Atkinson, gave Jamaica a gift yesterday, in the form of an 8th semifinal place, to make it to the finals of the women's 100m breaststroke at the London 2012 Olympics, today!

- Alia won heat 3 in 1:07.39s - a new personal best and national record, which qualified her for semifinals-2.

In her semifinal race, she tied with Canada's Tera Van Breilen, for an overall 8th place, in 1:07.48s. A swim-off was needed to determine who'd be the 8th person to enter the final.
(A swim-off involves the two tied swimmers racing against each other to determine a winner. The winner then wins the place vied for - 8th semifinal place going into the finals). - Alia won the swim-off in 1:06.79 s - the 5th fastest time going into the finals today at 2:13 pm Jamaica time (3:13 pm EST)
- In doing so, she set a new personal best time and a new Jamaican national record.

Please also remember to support Samantha Albert and her horse, Carraig Dubh, in the Equestrian Individual Eventing (Show Jumping) tomorrow..her event starts at 10:30 am GMT( 5:30 a.m. Jamaica time or 6:30 am EST).
Samantha gained 50 penalty points in the Individual Eventing (Cross Country) stage, today, to place her 17th in that competition so far.
She has a total of 121.2 penalty points from both the Equestrian Individual Eventing (Dressage and Cross Country stages), for placement of 38th out of 74 entries for her event - Equestrian (Individual Eventing).
