A page or more of possible glasses' selections will then be presented in the middle of the home page.

 

3) Then enter your PD in the Zenni Frame Fit section found at the right-hand-side of the Zenni Optical home page...

 

...Upload your picture to this section and follow the instructions there to fit the eyeglasses presented. (Zenni's Frame Fit technology allows you to fit your eyeglasses, right there on the site).

 

[The eyeglass frames presented will be based on your selection in point 2) above].

 

4) Should you not be satisfied with these frames,  you then have the option to choose other frames by color, size, style and shape.

 

Just adjust the sliders and  ticks in the relevant option boxes, on the left-hand-side of the home page.

Jamaica Celebrates Emancipendence This Week!

This week, Jamaica celebrates Emancipation and Independence, also known as Emancipendence!

 

Yesterday, August 1, was the 173rd celebration of the emancipation (freeing) of Jamaicans slaves from British slave masters.

 

(The first Emancipation Day was celebrated on August 1, 1838).

 

 

This week Saturday, August 6, will be celebrated as Jamaica's Independence Day - the day when we got our Independence from being a British Colony...

 

...When we were finally allowed to govern ourselves.

 

Jamaica will be 49 years old on Saturday.

 

Emancipation and Independence were memorable achievements by our forefathers, that should be rightly celebrated...

 

...And indeed we do!!

 

For our Independence celebrations, the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) stages several events that ensure the retention of our culture:

 

E.g. there is:

1) The Festival Song Competition, where ten (10) finalists (pulled from the entire 14 parishes), sing popular songs composed especially for Festival. They vie for $1 million dollars in prize money. 

 

2) The Gospel Song Competition, where 10 finalists also vie for $1 million in prizes - but in the Gospel genre (category) of music

 

3) A Festival Queens Contest where young ladies from the 14 parishes vie for the title of Festival Queen. The Festival Queen is not so much judged by her beauty, but on her poise and cultural awareness

 

4) Mello-Go- Roun' - where children, teens and adults who came first in the JCDC National Festival of the Arts Competition, perform their winning entries in song, poetry, drama,speech and dance, throughout this week, at the National Arena.

 

And , who could forget Denbigh -the annual agricultural show put on by the Ministry of Agriculture, over the Emancipation weekend?

 - Where the best of Jamaican farm products and animals are on display.

 

Every year, thousands of Jamaicans living in the diaspora (abroad), return home for Emancipendence celebrations in their own communities.

 

And I can tell you from what I'm hearing, they are having a grand time!

 

So come, join us this Emancipendence as we celebrate the rich heritage of our people...

 

...One nation, out of many nations, moving together as one!

I Just Don't Get it: TweetDeck Preferred Over Seesmic?

 

Folks, TweetDeck is the hottest kid in town right now.

 

In fact, it's so hot, that it's rumored to have been acquired by Twitter for a whopping US $40- $50 million!

 

...and that's after UberMedia offered its owners $30 million for it!

 

[According to article, "Twitter To Buy TweetDeck For $40 Million – $50 Million", UberMedia (formerly postup) is the leading independent developer of applications and web-based services that make it easier for users to find, follow and communicate with others on Twitter and other social media platforms.

 

It is said to be developing a competitor to Twitter].

 

Well, for those of you who don't yet know what TweetDeck is...it's a piece of software (aka a Twitter client), that you install on your desktop, that allows you to manage your social network interactions from one place.

 

So it enables you to have a dashboard with columns representing your recent and historical conversations on Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, FourSquare and MySpace...plus you can post status updates to all these social networks from TweetDeck at the same time, which is oh so sweet!

 

But there is another piece of software that does this very same thing...but more efficiently and intuitively.

 

It's a Google Chrome app called Seesmic. (Well, it was first introduced on Google Chrome. Now you can use it on IE, Firefox, iPhone, Android, etc.)

 

To me, Seesmic's  user interface is better that TweetDeck's, as it's lighter in color (hence easier on the eyes), easier to navigate and much more helpful in enabling you to figure out how to manage all your social networks from one place.

 

Additionally, it allows you to add other social networks to your account and hence, dashboard.

 

E.g. in addition to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and FourSquare, they also have Ping.fm and Google Buzz as standard offerings.

 

TweetDeck is yet to allow you to add other social networks to their standard offering.

 

So, why has Seesmic not been as popular as TweetDeck?

 

Marketing, folks...it all comes down to marketing!

 

And maybe, just maybe, Seesmic  boxed itself in at first, by only being offered as a Google Chrome app.

 

Unfortunately, Google Chrome, being the new entrant to the web browser market at the time (November 2009), had a lot of catching up to do to the web browser stalwarts - Firefox and Internet Explorer.

 

But you can test both for yourselves and make up your own minds.
