Oh my goodness...what a match between St. Jago High School and Kingston College (KC) this evening!

It was nail-biting to the very last minute...and St. Jago High emerged winners, after the judges took about ten (10) minutes to make their final decision...

Yes friends, St. Jago High School has won TVJ's Schools' Challenge Quiz for 2010!

They beat Kingston College 38 to 35 points in tonight's final.

These two schools were neck and neck in point standings from the 1st section of today's final. (The points are bracketed, below):

1st Section

St. Jago (10), Kingston College (10)

2nd Section

St. Jago (28),  Kingston College (29)

3rd Section

St. Jago (38) to Kingston College's  (35).

[Well, the match ended with St. Jago on 36 points and KC on 35 points.

The judges had to make a decision as to whether or not St. Jago's answer to a Spanish question was correct...and they decided that it was.

This propelled St. Jago to an additional two (2) points, that gave them 38 points to Kingston College's 35].

Schools' Challenge Quiz 2010: St. Jago Moves on to the Finals!

In an intensely fought match, this afternoon, St. Jago moved on to the finals of TVJ's Schools' Challenge Quiz.

 

They beat Wolmer's Boys' School 37 to 35 in the last semifinal match of this year's competition.

 

These two schools were neck and neck in point standings from the 1st section of today's semifinal. The points are bracketed:

 

1st Section

St. Jago (10), Wolmer's (9)

 

2nd Section

St. Jago (27) Wolmers' (25)

 

3rd Section

St. Jago (37) Wolmer's (37) - a tie which resulted in St. Jago winning the "sudden death" segment of the section when Wolmer's answered the tie-break question wrongly.

 

The final match will be between Kingston College and St. Jago High School, tomorrow.

Schools Challenge Quiz 2010: KC Moves on to the Finals!

In an intensely fought match, this afternoon, Kingston College (KC) moved on to the finals of TVJ's Schools' Challenge Quiz.

They beat Manchester High School, 28 to 25 points, in the first semifinal match of this year's competition.

[Schools' Challenge Quiz is an annual competition put on by Television Jamaica (TVJ - one of Jamaica's two free-to-air television stations), whereby high school students compete in a 3-round quiz competition for cash and prizes and the title of "Schools Challenge Quiz Champion".

High School students are quizzed on subjects studied at the 4th and 5th form level in high schools across the island...namely Math, English Language, English Literature and the Sciences].

The next Semifinal match will be between St. Jago High School and Wolmer's Boys School, tomorrow.

The finals will be played on March 31.
